NAIJA AT 55!!!
Hey Lovelies!! Today is special because its Nigeria’s
Independence day. The Great Giant of Africa is a whole 55 years old today.
There have been good times and bad times. Times when the entire country was in
mourning, times when you could hear shouts of jubilation from every street;
especially when our dear NEPA (now PHCN) restores power lol.
Nigerians are everywhere. We like to show ourselves wherever
we go. We must stand out from the rest in whatever way we can. This beautiful
nation which I have been blessed to be a part of has created some of the most
beautiful minds. When I think of Nigeria, I think of names such as Chinua
Achebe, Wole Soyinka, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, just to name a few. The average
Nigerian is inherently intelligent. Well, you have to be or else you’ll tell
your father whose house your’e sleeping at that night. History is replete with
stories of Nigerians doing great things around the world.
Nigerians are one of the most hardworking group of people I
know. We are “true hustlers”. Its in our DNA. You must find something doing in
order to pull your weight and contribute to your community. Above all, the best
part about this country I love is its culture. When I tell people we have
different languages, they often ask me “how is that even possible?”. The truth
is, as far as Naija dey concerned, anything fit happen. There's a lot of beauty in Nigeria's ethnic diversity and herein lies her strength. Also, we are very happy people. "Suffering and Smiling", as the great Fela Kuti would say it. You cannot take that away from us.
Nigeria can not be summed up in just one blog post. We are a
beautiful nation with a very bright future. Despite the numerous challenges,
there is still a lot to be thankful for. I forsee better days for my beautiful
country. I’m sure we all do. However, we often forget that better days start
with us as a people. Let’s all love one another. We are one.
Finally, we cannot end this without talking about how
Nigerians throw a party! No ocassion passes by without a proper celebration. So
you best be sure that my Naija brethren shall be turnt this weekend! If your’e
in the U.S, I hear there’s Straight Outta Naija Independence Day Celebration on
Friday in D.C and the All Things Ankara Ball coming up on the 17th.
Go and turn up with my people!!
So, in the spirit of Nigeria’s independence day, I have put
together a little something something (interior inspiration collage) to
celebrate my dear country. Hope you like it. I have used a green and white colour code
because of its symbolism. Green symbolises our rich agriculture, seeing that
the country is endowed in that area and white signifies unity and peace.

Happy Birthday Naija! We Love you!
Ps: Leave your comments/questions below and please don't forget to share with your friends and family! Thank you!!
Much Love,
Nena xx
